Image Compressor

Compress image files online

Compress image files right in your browser and make them up to 80% smaller with no visible loss. Drop in JPG, PNG or WebP pictures, choose a quality or a maximum size such as 100 KB, and download the results one by one or as a ZIP file. Nothing is uploaded: every image is compressed on your own device.

Your files never leave your device: they are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How it works

  1. 1Add your images: drop them on the box above, choose them from your device or paste them.
  2. 2Choose how to compress: a quality level (75% suits most photos) or a maximum size in KB for upload forms.
  3. 3Download each compressed image or all of them as a ZIP file. Use Compare to check the result side by side.

Compress by quality or to a target size

Quality mode is the quickest way to shrink photos for a website, an email or a chat. At 75% most photos lose half to four fifths of their size and still look the same on screen. Raise the quality for prints, lower it when every kilobyte counts.

Many forms, such as job portals, exam registrations and visa applications, only accept photos under 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB. Choose Target size, enter the limit and the compressor finds the highest quality that fits. If even the lowest quality is too big, it also scales the image down until it fits.

Which format to choose

JPG is the safest choice for photos: every device and website opens it. WebP is usually 25 to 35% smaller at the same quality and works in all current browsers. PNG is lossless, so it suits screenshots, logos and graphics with sharp edges; the compressor optimizes PNG files without changing a single pixel.

“Same as original” keeps each file’s format. Transparent images stay transparent in WebP and PNG; in JPG, which has no transparency, transparent areas become white.

Frequently asked questions

Is this image compressor free?

Yes. You can compress up to 20 images of up to 50 MB each per batch for free. AVIF output and resizing are included for free too.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Every image is decoded and compressed inside your browser, on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere, so private photos and documents stay private.

How do I compress an image to 100 KB, 50 KB or 20 KB?

Choose Target size, pick 100, 50 or 20 KB or type your own limit, then add the image. The result is always under the limit: one KB counts as 1,000 bytes, so the file also passes forms that count 1,024.

Does compressing reduce the image quality?

Lossy formats such as JPG and WebP drop detail you are unlikely to notice. Between 70 and 85% the difference is hard to see; use Compare to drag a divider across the original and the compressed image and judge for yourself.

Why did a file not get smaller?

Some images are already well compressed. When compressing would make a file bigger, the original is kept and marked as already optimized. For PNG photos, choose JPG or WebP to save much more space.
